Plan of Attack
You have been stuck at home on and off for many, many months now. You are noticing things that have been neglected and overlooked. Since you are at home now, you decide to fix some of them. The problem is that the projects seem to really be adding up.
How did you never notice the crack in the wall before? Geez, how long did that door need painted? And where the heck did that stain on the carpet come from? That’s it! You need out of the house because the longer you are home the more issues you notice.
You decide that you want to do these projects that have been waiting for your attention. Where do you start? Which issues should be fixed now and what can wait until later?
1. Walk around your house and take inventory of all the tings that are broken. Could they be fixed or should they be thrown out? If they can be fixed, is it something you can do? If not, who will you get to fix it and will it be cost effective to do so?
2. Now list all of the projects that need done like the painting and scrubbing the carpet. Figure out how long it will take you to tackle each project.
3. Is there anything else you want to accomplish while you’re home? Add those things to the list and figure out how much time it will take to complete these tasks.
4. Figure out when you will have time to get these projects completed and add it to your calendar. If you have a free hour, a free afternoon, a free weekend – adjust the project to the time you have. HINT – start with the projects that bother you the most. That way if you don’t get them all completed, at least you know you made a difference.
5. If time is an issue for you, set a timer before you start the project. Only work until the timer stops. You can then figure out how much time is left in the project and adjust your time for your next open spot in the calendar.
Now that you have a plan of attack, get busy. The house won’t fix itself and you will feel so much better when you can relax instead of looking at all the things you put on the list in the first place.
