Destination Anticipation

My father loves to drive.  When I was a child, we used to get into the car and just drive.  We ended up in some really cool places!  We rode the steepest roller coasters in Ohio, went to a Christmas village in Michigan, saw the tall ships in Maryland, and even played in teepees in Pennsylvania.

Now that Iā€™m an adult I realize that we had relatives in all those places.  The memories we made were probably just sight-seeing while visiting relatives.  But as a child, those trips were spontaneous and my dad was the coolest dad ever!

When my parents told us to get into the car, we never knew where we were going.  We just knew it was an adventure of some sort.  The anticipation was the best part of the trip!  I mean, who gets to see Santa Claus in June?

Seeing my giant family is one of the highlights of my life.  I am so thankful that my parents gave us that gift!

What did you look forward to as a child?  What are you doing to give your own children and/or grandchildren the same sense of anticipation?
