Family Focus

I am a very family-oriented person, which is great because I have an enormous family!  My dad had 13 brothers and sisters, my mother had 7, and I have over 100 first cousins.  My extended family is so big that I had my grandmothers and my mother-in-law do research to make sure my husband and I were not related before we got married.

When I was a child, I spent a lot of time with my family (one side, the other, or both.)  I grew close to my family – even those who lived far away.  But as we grew up, we unfortunately lost touch with some of the family members.

For the last ten years or so I have been the chairperson for family reunions on both sides of my family.  Some people show up every year, some show up occasionally, and sadly, we never see the others.  I have learned that if I focus on the people who are attending the reunion, my energy changes and I look forward to the reunions each year.  Changing my focus has given me the opportunity to enjoy time with my family and permission to have a great time with them.  I can’t wait until we can all get together again!

What is one thing you are looking forward to?  Do you need to change your focus to make it happen?  Don’t be afraid to make the changes necessary to help you get it done.
